Not the Bluebird of Happiness
It came with fluttering wings,
Descending and ascending
Faltering but unshakeable.
The wings were blue,
Deep and dark,
Delicate and unreachable.
The way it quivered and trembled,
I thought and hoped,
It would fall away forever.
Still, I could not deny
The beauty and serenity,
The tranquility and the familiarity.
It circled around my head
Though it forever rested on my heart
I was confused.
It flew like a feather
But weighed me down like lead
My chest sank low.
It looks beautiful,
And keeps my company,
But it always makes me feel alone.
Descending and ascending
Faltering but unshakeable.
The wings were blue,
Deep and dark,
Delicate and unreachable.
The way it quivered and trembled,
I thought and hoped,
It would fall away forever.
Still, I could not deny
The beauty and serenity,
The tranquility and the familiarity.
It circled around my head
Though it forever rested on my heart
I was confused.
It flew like a feather
But weighed me down like lead
My chest sank low.
It looks beautiful,
And keeps my company,
But it always makes me feel alone.
